Disasters Happen! What Can You Do?
We had a great company in the office the other day that deal with Disaster Restoration, because Disasters Happen and they gave us some great information that I thought would be good to pass along to you.
DID YOU KNOW: The top causes of home and business damage come from
- Supply line burst – toilets, sinks, dishwasher, washing machine, ice maker supply lines, etc.
- Water heater failure and burst
- Washing machine overflow
- Personal Error – forgot the water running in the tub, etc.
- Fire/Smoke damage – Kitchen fires and other major events
- Wind, vehicle, and other miscellaneous caused damage
So What Can You Do? You can help PREVENT the damage BEFORE it happens by
- Soft Supply Lines – Have all soft supply lies, angel stops, and main shut-offs inspected and tested once per year.
- Know Main Shut-Off Points – Know the location of the main turn off locations for electrical, water and fire sprinklers. Test all main shut-offs to assure they are not frozen.
- Create a Simple Disaster Prevention Plan – Actions in the first 60 minutes to 24 hours can prevent substantial “Secondary Damage”
- Water Off When You’re Gone for More Than 2 Days
- Get Properly Insured – Condo owner’s insurance company is FREQUENTLY wrong, too low, or not carried at all.
These are just a few of the top actions you can take on your own when disasters happen. If you ever have a disaster at your home or business, please have a look at our website under the Preferred Partner tab to find our referrals for this and many other services that we think can be of help to you.
